1876 May 10 - York Herald - SCARBRO’ - THE RECENT CRUELTY TO A HORSE - Yesterday David Hulley labourer
Seamer-road who was reported in Monday's Herald has been charged by Inspector Campbell of the
Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with most wanton cruelty to a horse did not
appear to answer the summons and the Bench considering the nature of the case had no hesitation in
granting a warrant for the apprehension of the defendant who in the meantime absconded. Inspector
Campbell by means of watching some-one on familiar terms with the defendant succeeded in
apprehending him in bed early yesterday morning. The Bench fined Hulley £1, and 14s 6d costs.
