1828 28 May - The Derby Mercury - Derby Borough Sessions, Saturday, May 24, 1828. Martin Smith, Edward Hully,
and Will Dickins, were found guilty of stealing one pair of stockings from the shop of Messrs Hall and
Goodwin, pawnbrokers, and were ordered -- the two former to be transported seven years each - and
the latter to be imprisoned six months. Smith and Hully were well-known characters in the
neighbourhood of Sheffield.

1840 Jan 11 - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - West-Riding Sessions - Sarah Jenkinson (21) Thos Hulley (28) and
Thomas Crookes, (19,) committed in the name of George Crookes, were charged with stealing a watch and
other articles at Sheffield from the person of Thomas Nightingale, his property. Jenkinson pleaded Guilty;
Hulley acquitted; Crookes found Guilty. Crookes was sentenced to six months imprisonment, and
Jenkinson three months.

1860 22 Sep - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - in an SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND IN SHEFFIELD. - the industrial
school for the blind, which, as previously announced in our columns, Miss Harrison, assisted by a few
other benevolent ladies, has so energetically laboured to establish in Sheffield, was formally opened on
Monday last. The premises, which have been taken on lease, are in the yard behind the shop of Mr
Chatterton, stationer, 47 West street, and consist of several cutlers’ workshops, which have been
cleaned and fitted with necessary frames. The hamper and strong basket making is carried out under
the superintendence of Wm. Hulley; the mat making under that of -- Jackson; Sarah Slack, from one of
the London institutions, teaching the fancy basket making to the females. Hully and Jackson are
Sheffield men, who have hitherto been working at their own homes.
