1872 09 Dec - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - DONCASTER WEST RIDING PETTY SESSIONS - Before Thos. Walker, Esq., and a full bench of magistrates - Arthur Ulley, of Mexbro’, well known to the police, was sent to prison for a month as a rogue and vagabond.
1874 09 Mar - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - DONCASTER WEST RIDING POLICE - Arthur Ulley, a glass-blower, of Mexbro’, and a notorious character into the bargain, was charged with stealing two penny cakes from the shop of William Hind Haycroft, confectioner, Mexbro’. The prisoner walked into the shop, took the cakes, and proceeded to eat them. When remonstrated with he said he was hungry, and had no money to buy them with. Six week’s imprisonment.

1869 03 May - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - MEXBRO’ -PLAYING AT PITCH AND TOSS - John Shepherd and Cornelius Ulley, of Mexbro’ were charged before the West Riding Bench, at Doncaster, with playing “pitch and toss,” at Mexbro’ on Sunday, April 11th. Police-constable Weavill proved the charge. The defendants were advised to attend a place of worship, and ordered to pay the costs, 7s. 6d. each.

1875 31 May - York Herald - WEST RIDING POLICE - On Saturday, Herbert Ulley, Joseph Ulley, Thomas Smeaton, and George Oxcliffe, of Mexbro’, were charged with being found on the highway at Mexbro’, in possession of a hare, and coming from land where they had been unlawfully in search of game. AS P.C. Semper was on the highway between Barmbro’ and Mexbro’ on Sunday night, the 16th of May, he met the four defendants and got hare which Herbert Ulley was carrying. Defendants said they had been for a walk, and while they were on the road a hare came through the fence, and the dogs followed and captured it. As nothing was known of them, and they were very civil to the police, they were discharged on paying 6s. 6d. each costs.

CONFERENCE AT ROTHERHAM - an important conference of the miners of Yorkshire was held in the St George’s Hall, Rotherham, on Monday, for the purpose of considering the resolution passed at the Manchester Conference, that the miners ask for an advance of 15 per cent. on the present rate of wages, and if the request be refused that the output be restricted until the advance be granted. About 130 delegates were present. The Conference next decided that the deputation should consist of 20 members, with the chairman and the secretary. A motion was passed to the effect that the necessary number of the children be removed by the overseers to the Workhouse. The Board then stood adjourned till Thursday next.
