Dear Win
I hope you can understand the family tree, it is about all I know.
The Hulleys were left without parents when they were young and the family spilt up. My
mother and her sister (my Mother was called Mary better known as Polly) Eliza went to
live at Mossley while the brothers stayed in Royton. Eliza died when she was about 12
I think [c1904?]. Allan [?who] has a restaurant in Oldham and I used to go there with
my mother when I was young. I used to enjoy a free meal in the restaurant and I used to
think it was grand.
John [?brother of Eliza?] had anunusual experience when he was at work. He was a
mill engineer looking after the mill engine when he saw a man fall from the top of a mill
chimney. It turned him grey overnight.
Uncles Jim and George played in Royton Brass Band and so did Fred and George
when they were young. Banding is in the family. I played the same kind of instrument
as Uncles Jim and George. I played with the famous Fairey Engineering [sic] Band for a
number of years. I don't know if this information is any good to them, but it is family
history.
You will notice the name Emma [?sister of Squire Hulley born 1859/]. Well, she married
a man called Whitran. Her eldest son Herbert was killed in the First World War. She
had two more sons Charlie and Harold who were left orphans at 14 & 11 years and they
both came to live at our house. I was 11 then. Charlie joined the Army soon after and
served in India for about 9 years in the Manchester Regimental Band. I think that is all.
Regards Jack.

2007 27 Mar - information from Beryl Jones, Australia:-

Fred Hulley (my uncle, b 1904) was born with a club foot, and they spent a lot of time
and money getting it corrected, hence the gap in age between him and my father
George. He was in calipers for most of his childhood.

During WW2 he had thrombosis, and his brother, George (in the army) was called
home to visit him, as it was very serious. However he recovered.
Fred and Annie + daughter Mildred went South to Eastbourne and then to Luton. They bought a shop in Dunstable Rd, Luton, then moved to another shop at Biscot Mill,
Luton. Mildred (born Sept 1928 Oldham 8d 1247) emigated to USA with husband
