2005 5 Mar - Note to Pam Dale and Roger Cooper from Ray Hulley: Last Wednesday I spoke to Alan Hulley who is linked into The One House family and asked him had he a record of a Frances Elizabeth or of a Thomas Hulley Silk Merchant of London. He had no record of Frances Elizabeth but drew my attention to an entry in the Prestbury church marriage register dated 11 August 1792 which read:- Thomas Hulley, silk-merchant, of City of London, & Mary Wright of R. (Rainow) "Lic". He would have been 28 if he was the One House Thomas. Surprisingly the One House bible doesn't show this event but it only shows births and deaths in the period covered i.e. 1730-1880. At least this proves that Thomas was originally from Macclesfield. I checked through the bible and found a possible relevant entry for 9 Mar 1788. Whittaker Wright of Macclesfield Alderman Died on the 9th day of March 1788 & was buried in the Old Church yard at the same place on the 14th of the same month by the Revd. Mr.Sharp and was aged 46 years and 8 months. It seems unusual to have an entry of a Wright in the Hulley bible unless he had some connection with the family. In 1785 he was named as a bondsman in the will of Jonathan Hulley of the One House. Although he died 4 years before Mary Wright was married - he was living at Macclesfield at the time whilst she was in Rainow 4 years later - nevertheless if the birth of Mary Wright showing that she was a child of Whittaker could be found then that would more or less confirm the connection with the One House family. The tree of this family is shown fully in my book "The History and Hulley Families of The One House" and goes back to 1488 and beyond. (see the Publications section - Longview Publishing - of my website). Unfortunately Cheshire records are almost non-existent as far as the IGI is concerned so it would mean a check through the St Michael's church registers on microfilm at Cheshire RO or at Macclesfield LS library. Whilst the above doesn't prove conclusively that Thomas Hulley came from the One House tree, there is sufficient information on which additional research could be made to confirm it.
