2004 29 Nov - letter from Alfred P. Hulley to Ray Hulley (including):- In my researches I have found that my father, George Richard operated as an accountant in Liverpool (Toxteth) in the late1890s whilst retaining his registered address at 42 Poulton Street Kirkham, Lancs. His first wife May (Charlton) a schoolteacher died in 1899 after giving birth to a son on 1st July 1898 who himself was killed in action in Oct. 1917. His death is recorded in the Book of Memoriam published by Durham School where he had been a boarder following an earlier education in the High School in Glasgow where George Richard was then working as a Company Director after marrying Ethel Peppercorn in 1912. None of the other Hulleys of this generation married. The Peppercorns are an interesting family but there are no traces beyond 1720, although the name is reputed to be recorded in two forms as far back as 1170 or so, in York Minster. My traces go into Huntingdonshire and one of my half-uncles gave his name to a class of locomotives. [See website www.winwaed.com/rail/LNER/eng]. A first cousin married into the Spencer Churchill family and a ?half cousin was a concert pianist of some note. Another became Lady Duckham (Duckham's Oils). A second cousin is David who writes on wines and is married (secondly) to a director of Sothebys. My daughter Susanne lives in Portsmouth and whilst she still works in a fairly senior position in the NHS, her husband has an appointment with Cadbury Scheppes following his retirement as a Lt. Cdr. R.N. My son Peter also wallowed the anchor and is a manufacturing manager working in Tavistock. Richard Hulley is administrator of a school in Perth following his retirement from the Navy.
