Note from Jeffrey Hulley Dayne of Detroit, Michigan, USA. (jdayne@gmail.com). George was a cellist in the London Symphony, and in the 1920s until circa 1932 a cellist in the Detroit Symphony of Michigan. His brother Archibald and their wives moved to Detroit, Archie was also in the symphony. Archibald played every instrument and directed the London Symphony when he was 16 years old, according to verbal report by Ronald Hulley Dayne son of George. George was killed in an auto accident collision with a streetcar in Detroit Michigan. He was a member of the musicians' union and was on his way home from a union meeting in the middle of the night. George played music at theaters and other venues in addtion to playing for the symphony. Ronald Hulley Dayne accounted that the musician union provided musicians for three days at their home in East Dearborn, Michigan while George's body lay at rest following his death.
2007 8 Feb - the maiden name of Annie nee Gooding has been given to me by Jeffery Hulley Dayne Jeff also gave the following details: The above Annie Gooding Hulley was the wife of Frederick Hulley (b 1859 in Norfolk, Yarmouth). Their two sons, Fredrick George Hulley (b. 1885) and Archibald Hulley (b. 1887) had emigrated earlier. Annie brought her daughter Violet Hulley (b. 1885) and Frederick George's wife Ethyl, and their two sons, Leslie and Ronald. Frederick George and his brother Archibald emigrated to the US a few years earlier than 1916 to Detroit, Michigan to play in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. They were entertainers, and changed their surname to Dayne for show-business reasons.
(The LSO became the first British orchestra to play overseas when it went to Paris in 1906, and the first to play in the United States, in 1912. The LSO was due to sail on the RMS Titanic for a concert in New York in April 1912 but fortunately had to change the booking at the last minute. (Wikipedia))
I have the list of about one hundred Hulley descendants of the name of Dayne. I recently discovered that my father, Ronald Hulley (91) lives about 20 miles from his cousin Richard Hulley (91) son of Archibald, of whom he had lost track about 40 years ago. They're to have lunch together!
